Morin Memorial Square
By Eddie Morin
I am the son of Raul Morin who was an activist, veteran and author. He wrote the book, “Among the Valiant” which chronicled the heroics of the Mexican American Medal of Honor recipients of WWII and Korea. He spoke out against police brutality and other relevant issues affecting our community. He was active in many civic organizations and even helped to co-found a few. He knew many prominent politicians and met twice with President Lyndon Johnson as a representative of Congressman George Brown for whom he worked. Upon his demise at the early age of 53, his peers named the monument area at the five points in East Los Angeles, Morin Memorial Square. today there is a controversy with a group that wants to rename the area and the issue is ongoing and will probably be settled in court.
Eddie, thank you so much for posting about your father, Raul Morin! It’s great to hear from you about his legacy and historical impact on the community. We really appreciate you sharing this with us and the many others who visit East LA Interchange’s site.
Dear Itchy Bee,
Thank you for your support and kind words, it does mean a lot to me. I have a feeling that those wishing to promote the frivolous name change will soon desist.
Eddie, thanks for being the son of great and Memoraval person, who did so much in Hi’s life. Thanks for keeping your Dad’s memory alive. I also want to know how to replace the current flag which is in threads. It is an insult having an American flag in such condition for ELA area and mostly for your father in all respect. Jose
